JURAJ LEHOTSKÝ was born in 1975 in Bratislava. In the years 1990 – 1994, he graduated from a high school of art and industry, majoring in photography in Bratislava. In the years 1995 – 2000, he studied documentary film direction at the University of Performing Arts in Bratislava.

After his studies, he has been working as a screenwriter and director of documentaries, feature films, commercials and music videos until now.

Juraj's documentary Blind Loves (2008) had its international premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Quinzaines des Réalisateurs section, where it won the C.I.C.A.E. Award for Art Cinemas. This was followed by successful participation in important international festivals and several awards (Golden Eye for the best documentary film at the FF Zurich, Audience Award for the best documentary film at the FF Trieste, Special recognition for the cameraman at the Plus Camerimage festival, Special Jury Prize at the MFDF Play-Doc Tui and many others).

His feature debut, Zázrak (2013), had its world premiere at the Karlovy Vary IFF, in the East of the West section, where it received a Special Mention. The film was further screened at the Toronto IFF, Haifa IFF, Thessaloniki IFF, FF Cottbus (Award for Outstanding Performance by a Leading Actress), FF Arras (Grand Prix), IFF Black Nights Tallinn, FF Vilnius (Award for Best Actress) and many others.

Nina (2017) is his second feature film. The film premiered at the Karlovy Vary IFF, in the East of the West section, and was shown at the Toronto IFF, won the FIPRESCI award at the Warsaw IFF, the Bronze Pyramid at the Cairo IFF, the award for Best Film at the FF Neisse or the Bronze Grape at the Lubuš Film Festival.

JURAJ LEHOTSKÝ sa narodil v roku 1975 v Bratislave. V rokoch 1990 – 1994 vyštudoval strednú umelecko–priemyselnú školu, odbor fotografia v Bratislave. V rokoch 1995 – 2000 študoval na Vysokej škole múzických umení v Bratislave odbor réžia dokumentárneho filmu.

Po štúdiu až do súčasnosti pracuje ako scénarista a režisér dokumentárnych, hraných filmov, reklamných spotov a hudobných videoklipov.

Jurajov dokumentárny film Slepé lásky (2008) mal medzinárodnú premiéru na MFF Cannes v sekcii Quinzaines des Réalisateurs, kde získal Cenu artových kín udeľovanú C.I.C.A.E. Nasledovala úspešná účasť na významných medzinárodných festivaloch a niekoľko ocenení (Zlaté oko pre najlepší dokumentárny film na FF Zürich, Cena divákov pre najlepší dokumentárny film na FF Terst, Zvláštne uznanie pre kameramana na festivale Plus Camerimage, Zvláštna cena poroty na MFDF Play-Doc Tui a mnoho iných).

Film mal premiéru na MFF Karlove Vary, v sekcii Na východ od Západu, ďalej bol uvedený na MFF Toronto, získal ocenenie FIPRESCI na MFF Varšava, Bronzovú pyramídu na MFF Káhira, cenu za Najlepší film na FF Neisse či Broznové hrozno na festivale Lubušské filmové leto.
